California artist, Cheryl Christiansen, is a woman of
talent… of beauty… and amazing versatility.
She
is most noted for her serene landscapes and colorful
garden scenes. Painted with a contemporary flare, they
were inspired by her admiration of Monet and the Impressionists.
Her early watercolor florals resemble the primitive
still-life paintings by Sarah Phine, the renowned artist
of the post-impressionist period, while her more recent
oversized florals are a sensual, microscopic study of
the intimate beauty of flowers.
Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area,
Ms. Christiansen is a writer, producer, actress, dancer
and singer-songwriter who has appeared on many TV shows,
in feature films and on stage, and whose songs have
been recorded by major recording artists. She began
painting in the late 1970’s, when she met artist
and famous film director, Jean Negulesco, who was sketching
his infamous line drawings of the people and happenings
around him. His technique attracted her, and he became
her mentor. Presenting her with her first camera, guiding
her and encouraging her to develop all of her many talents,
he unlocked the door to a world of art, out of which
has flowed her extensive creativity. Under his tutelage,
she began her painting career with pen and ink drawings
splashed with gouche. His influence, and the impact
their relationship had in her life, is evident in her
exotic body of work. She received her formal training
at Otis/Parsons Institute.
Ms. Christiansen works in all
media, but prefers oil. The prismatic colors closely
represent to her the energy vortexes of the human body,
allowing her to explore and express the world of light.
Involved for many years in the healing arts, Ms. Christiansen
experiences the process of creating a painting as a
road map for the evolvement of the soul – the
end result revealing the journey of the spirit toward
forgiveness, love, healing and enlightenment. Her work
appears in major private and corporate collections internationally.
